The Warrens
‘The Warrens’ is a site near to Thingwall Corner. Although the site is seperated by trees, it forms a corner of Arrowe Park and public access has been open for many years. The site also forms part of the official designated ‘Green Belt’- a national designation designed to protect certain tracts of land and prevent the merging of townships and retain individual area identities.
In 2002 and again in 2007 the Wirral Primary Care Trust submitted an outline planning application to develop the land to build a Medical Centre replacing the current 3 surgeries of the West Wirral Group practive at Irby, Thingwall and Heswall. The initial application was refused in 2002. In 2007 the second application caused quite a stir among many Wirral groups particularly the newly formed Friends of Arrowe Park.
ITPAS received comments from its members and the issue had been discussed at committee meeting many months prior to the application. There were very mixed views about the proposed new facility. As a result the ITPAS presented this ‘video report’. The report has recently been updated as a decision on the matter was made last October.
